Andalusia is an autonomous community in the Kingdom of Spain. It is the second largest of the seventeen autonomous communities of the Kingdom of Spain. Its capital and largest city is Seville. The region is divided into eight provinces: Huelva, Seville, Cádiz, Córdoba, Málaga, Jaén, Granada and Almería.
Andalusia is located south of the autonomous communities of Extremadura and Castile-La Mancha; west of the autonomous community of Murcia and the Mediterranean Sea; east of Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean; and north of the Mediterranean Sea, the Strait of Gibraltar, which separates Spain from Morocco, and the Atlantic Ocean.
The region’s scenery stands out because of its sheer diversity. Some areas are covered in mountains while others are full of plains. There are three distinct geographical structures: the Sierra Morena to the north, the Guadalquivir river and Betica depression in the central part of the region, and the Betica mountain ranges in the south.
Andalusia has got several major tourist airports like Malaga, Granada, Seville, Jerez and Almeria. At all airports you will find a large offer of tourist services like car hire, travel agencies etc.
The city of Almeria dominates a coastline dotted with almost virgin beaches and an interior marked by peculiar semideserted ecosystems. Almería reveals its Alcazaba (citadel) and its cathedral, on the shores of the Mediterranean. Narrow streets with whitewashed façades are elements of its picturesque historic quarter. In addition to history and culture, Almería offers beaches, mountain and coastal nature reserves. In order to make your holidays unforgettable it is a good idea to book car hire Almeria before you travel, as the prices for car hire are normally cheaper when you prebook a rental car in Almeria.
The name Granada is ancient and mysterious. It may mean “great castle”, for the Roman fortress which once stood on the Albaicin Hill. When the Moors came here, the town was largely inhabited by Jews, for which they called it Garnat-al-Yahud - Granada of the Jews. Granada was the last Muslim city to fall to the Christians in 1492, at the hands of Queen Isabel of Castile and her husband Ferdinand of Aragon.
One of the most brilliant jewels of universal architecture is the Alhambra, a series of palaces and gardens built under the Nazari Dynasty in the 14th C. This mighty compound of buildings – including the summer palace called Generalife, with its fountains and gardens - stands at the foot of Spain’s highest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada, and overlooks the city below and the fertile plain of Granada. Granada has got so much to offer that car hire Granada is a must for visitors who want to see the different landscapes of the province of Granada. You will find car hire companies in the city and also car rental agencies at Granada airport.
The position of Malaga as capital of the Costa del Sol makes Malaga it one of the most important tourist destinations in Spain, thanks to its mild climate, its beaches and the excellent golf courses available. For Golfers car hire Malaga is recommended direct from Malaga airport, saving the hassle of taking a taxi at Malaga airport and rent a car afterwards. Many people booking holidays on the Costa del Sol will enter Spain at Malaga’s airport and never visit the city. Yet, Malaga is one of the friendliest cities in Spain with several attractions worth visiting.
